What Can I Expect from the My McKenzie Friend Services Counselling Service?

If this is your first time considering personal counselling, you may be unsure what to expect from us and your counselling sessions. It's great to approach it with curiosity and an open mind. You’ve already done the most challenging part by seeking support.
Attend an informal, confidential, non-clinical meeting with Jason to discuss how you feel the effects of relationship breakdown, family separation, co-parenting conflict, or domestic abuse impact your well-being. If it’s agreed that our counselling service is the appropriate support for you now, then you will be offered up to 12 sessions of therapy lasting 50 minutes each.
You’re encouraged to think about your motivations for attending counselling. It’s okay to be unsure of specific goals or desired outcomes, but it can help set some intentions initially. Be honest with yourself about your commitment. For the process to be beneficial, you must attend sessions regularly and set aside time to work on yourself.
We work from a Person-Centred perspective, meaning that you take the lead. Our Integrative counsellors employ multiple therapeutic styles, delivering personalised and practical service to support you best. Your counsellor encourages and empowers you without judgement, giving you the confidential space to understand yourself better and discover the solutions to your issues.
And remember, therapy isn’t something we need only access at points of personal crisis. It is an ongoing investment in ourselves. It can be utilised as a preventative tool as much as a recovery aid. It can bring strength and stability, choice, and relief.
